In 1984, Forever 21 began as a modest boutique store called Fashion 21 in Los Angeles. More stores were opened across the country, and the company was relaunched as Forever 21. Forever 21 predominantly sells women's clothes, but the stores and online also sell men's, girls', and home goods. At its peak, Forever 21 had roughly 620 shops worldwide. The company filed for bankruptcy and underwent restructuring in 2019 due to financial problems. While American stores were acquired by a group of mall operators, many international stores were forced to close. Even while some of its stores are still open, Forever 21 now mostly sells goods online.
