A quick and simple option to stock up on everything on your shopping list is to use grocery delivery services.

One of the most well-liked services is Walmart+, particularly with customers who frequent Walmart.

The company offers curbside pickup and delivery depending on your region, in addition to offering a large variety of goods on its website and app.

We frequently utilize Walmart+ as busy working moms who rely on grocery delivery services to help make our weeks a little simpler.

What exactly is Walmart Plus?

Walmart+ is a Walmart subscription that includes grocery delivery and free shipping on online orders, among other perks.

It offers an alternative to well-liked grocery delivery services like Amazon Prime, Instacart, and Shipt, and is only available for Walmart products and stores.

Walmart+ members receive free grocery delivery, but the business also lets nonmembers use the Walmart+ app to order free curbside pickup. Orders for delivery are also accepted from non-members for an extra cost.

What is Walmart Plus good for?

A Walmart+ membership comes with several benefits, including:

  • Early access to sales, including Black Friday
  • Free grocery delivery from your local store on orders over $35
  • Free shipping with no minimum order at Walmart.com
  • Discounts on prescription medication
  • Save up to $0.10 per gallon at Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy gas stations nationwide.
  • Access to member prices at Sam’s Club gas stations
  • In-store contactless "Scan & Go" checkout
  • New! Paramount+ subscription included with your Walmart+ membership!

What's the difference between Walmart and Walmart Plus?

Walmart Plus is a paid subscription service that offers you the ability to buy a variety of goods from Walmart's online and physical locations, including groceries. If you sign up, you'll get discounts and advantages at Walmart and stores owned by Walmart, including Sam's Club, Jet.com, and Bonobos. Walmart Plus is intended for frequent Walmart customers!

How much does Walmart Plus membership cost?

Walmart+ costs $12.95 per month if paid monthly or $98 per year if paid annually.

Also, there is a $35 minimum for all grocery delivery orders.

While curbside pickup is free for both members and nonmembers, delivery is $8–$10 if you don't have a Walmart+ membership, depending on the time and date you choose.

Plus, during specific hours, both members and nonmembers have the option of placing an Express Delivery order for $10. Please note that the $35 order minimum is not required for these orders.

Reviews from customers and brand reputation

In all honesty, Walmart+ has received mixed reviews. This is understandable because the Walmart+ experience varies greatly from store to store and sometimes even depends on the specific staff who put your order together.

Many customers express dissatisfaction with the quality of substitutes. Sadly, Walmart doesn't provide a means for you to specify the kinds of alternatives you'd want to get in the event that one of your items is out of stock.

We have never experienced any significant problems with the substitutions received, but have gotten one or two that have left us puzzled (for example, a bag of frozen meatballs as a substitute for frozen chopped steak).

Also, a handful of reviewers frequently reported delays in receiving their orders.

Even though we have experienced a few late deliveries, it hasn't been a major issue. But we can see how that would occur more frequently in bigger locations with more delivery recipients or even in smaller, more remote counties with fewer delivery drivers.

Finally, there have been some negative comments about customer service. Instead of calling the store, we always find emailing Walmart's customer support to be far more straightforward and practical.

Grocery selection

Walmart+ has a large assortment of foods and items.

You can quickly shop for a variety of meats, eggs, dairy products, canned goods, condiments, grains, seasonings, snacks, frozen foods, prepared foods, and supplements using the website or app.

A variety of organic and conventional fresh fruits and vegetables are also available.

A wide range of additional products are also offered, such as dinnerware, home decor, kitchenware, and food storage containers.

However, bagged ice cannot be purchased through Walmart+ and you are unable to select things that weigh 50 pounds (22.7 kg) or more on delivery orders.

The availability of a product depends on what your neighborhood Walmart has in stock. Unless you specify otherwise, a comparable product will be substituted for an out-of-stock one.

Remember that if a substitution doesn't meet your requirements or preferences, you always have the choice to reject it. At curbside pickup, just let the Walmart employee know, and they'll take it from your order.

Oh and you'll need to use the app to submit a refund request for delivery orders.

Brands and variety

Walmart+ sells a number of well-known brands, including Kraft, Hormel, Tyson, Bob's Red Mill, Bolthouse Farms, Birch Benders, and Tattooed Chef, in addition to carrying Walmart's own brands, such as Great Value, Marketside, and Sam's Choice.

Detailed information on each product, such as whether it contains organic, grass-fed, or sugar-free ingredients, is available on the Walmart+ website.

As a result, buying things that fits your needs, personal finances, and preferred diet is simple.

Freshness and taste

The products you choose will have a big impact on the flavor and freshness of your order.

Foods like snacks, drinks, boxed meals, canned products, and cooking utensils are likely to arrive unharmed and safely.

However, the quality of fresh produce can vary.

You can use the app or website to ask for a refund if anything in your order is wrong or if an item comes damaged.

Materials and packaging

After you submit your order, a store associate will gather and bag your items. The items are then delivered to your home by a contracted delivery driver.

Bag fees that may be applicable in your area are automatically added to your transaction.

One drawback is that you can't yet use reusable bags or bring your own bags to cut down on plastic usage. Nevertheless, some places provide recycling boxes for plastic bags, which are often placed at the entrance of the business.

However, if you'd rather avoid using plastic bags, you might opt to do your food shopping in-store or find a more environmentally friendly delivery service.

Almost every item in a few of our orders was bagged separately, which means a lot of plastic waste.

Diet-friendliness

Walmart+ offers a wide selection of items that work with almost any diet.

For instance, those who eat a vegan or vegetarian diet can buy fruits, vegetables, canned products, tofu, and plant-based meat alternatives.

For people who follow a ketogenic diet, meat, eggs, butter, vegetable oils, and dairy products are also available.

For those who have dietary restrictions or intolerances, there are numerous options available, such as gluten-free and lactose-free items.

Remember that you cannot filter products using dietary restrictions or specific ingredients on Walmart+. Because of this, it's crucial to carefully review product labels and ingredient lists before making a purchase.

How to use Walmart Plus

If you don't already have one, you must first create a Walmart account in order to proceed.

Next, you have two options: either place your order and sign up for Walmart+ after checkout, or sign up for Walmart+ beforehand.

You can sign up for a Walmart+ free trial here.

You can use the app to search for and add products to your shopping cart.

You'll reserve a delivery or pickup time once you've added all the products you need.

You can add a tip, confirm your payment method, select if you want the delivery to be contactless, and decide whether you want to accept replacements on the final checkout page. If you need a certain product, you can deny substitutions on individual products.

Through the app, you'll get notifications concerning your order.

If an item you ordered isn't available, you'll be given a window for substitutes (unless it's a same-day order), during which you can accept or reject the alternatives that the Walmart employee who picked your order has selected.

You'll also receive notifications when your driver leaves the store, arrives at your house, and delivers your purchase.

Is Walmart Plus worth it?

If you're searching for a quick, easy, and economical way to order your weekly groceries, Walmart+ might be an excellent choice.

People who already get the majority of their groceries from Walmart stores will find it extremely helpful.

Also, Walmart Plus is an excellent choice whether you're short on time or want to prepare fresh meals at home because it offers a variety of fresh ingredients and produce in addition to prepared and frozen meals.

However, a service like Instacart or Amazon Fresh would be more appropriate if you don't live close to a Walmart store or want to shop elsewhere.

We used to only buy groceries from Walmart+, but recently we have discovered that the app doesn't fully reflect what's in stock at our neighborhood store. However, this seems to be a problem at other grocery stores as well.

Plus, we have observed that it's getting more difficult to get convenient delivery times, and find it annoying that some of the household and grocery items that Walmart sells are not accessible through Walmart+.

Having said that, we still believe Walmart+ could be a fantastic fit if you are a regular Walmart customer and interested in both food delivery and free 2-day shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Can you cancel Walmart Plus at any time?

You can cancel your Walmart+ Membership by calling (800) 924-9206 or through your Walmart Account.

Payments made for Walmart+ membership are not refundable. If you cancel your Walmart+ membership, you can still use it until the date that your payment for the membership expires.

Can my family use my Walmart Plus account?

Yes and no. Family members using the same account and living in the same home can share Walmart+. We do not really think there is currently a way to share Walmart+ with family members that have different accounts.

Do you have to tip Walmart plus delivery?

Although it is not required, tipping your driver is recomended. Since Walmart+ drivers are not Walmart employees, they are not paid an hourly wage, and a sizable part of their income comes from tips.

Adding a tip to your order is possible during the checkout process, and you can adjust it up to 24 hours after receiving your order.  I don't frequently adjust my tip after I've placed an order, but I have done so if the driver had to deliver my order in bad weather.

One thing to keep in mind is that your driver is not the one who picks your groceries. Therefore, it shouldn't have an impact on the tip you provide to your driver if you receive produce that doesn't meet your requirements or if you don't like the substitutes.
